By the end of 2013 there were 121,2 hundreds legal foreigners in Poland – indicates the data provided by The Office for Foreigners, the state institution responsible for issuing the stay permits. However, this data does not include people staying in Poland illegally, but also those who visit Poland for seasonal jobs, and stay longer than half of a year.
The report of Ośrodek Badań nad Migracjami Foundation draws conclusion that immigrants in Poland most often settle in greatest cities of Poland, where international companies employing foreigners have their headquarters and where are the universities.
In Lower Silesian district of Poland lives 7,5 % foreigners with permanent stay permits. The biggest group are Ukrainians, then Koreans (799 persons – due to establishment of LG factory and its subcontractors in Kobierzyce).
Foreigners who need help may turn to different non-governmental organizations or state institutions like Office for Foreigners, Social-Welfare Centres, embassies. There are also formal and informal groups organized by migrants themselves (operating on social media portals like Facebook).
Immigrants may seek help in NOMADA Association which implement SUKURS Project: “By our actions we want to make Wrocław a safe place for anyone, no matter what passport this person holds or which god believes. For the last 4 years we were informed about 300 bias motivated attacks. We provide legal counseling to the victims, we accompany them on the Police stations and in the courts. We also report those situations to Policemen and officials.”
INFOLINK however is run by Wrocławskie Centrum Rozwoju Społecznego (donated by the borough of Wrocław). It is a place of support for foreigners living in Wrocław, who encounter everyday challenges of different kind. INFOLINK provides legal help, business counseling, but also provides some useful tips how to spend the free time. The point provides the help free of any charge and in many languages.
